Hoops and Healthcare-
The New Jersey Nets Help Boost NJ FamilyCare Enrollment

The Garden State's own NBA team, The New Jersey Nets, gets points for spreading the word about NJ FamilyCare. The March 18 home game against the Milwaukee Bucks is “NJ FamilyCare Night” at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, sponsored by the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey. Public address announcements and messages on the electronic scoreboard will be made during the game directing fans to a FamilyCare table in the concourse, where parents can ask questions about eligibility and complete applications for the program. Everyone who inquires will be entered into a raffle to win an official NBA basketball autographed by every Nets player, as well as other Nets merchandise. Winners' names will be announced during breaks in the game.

“We're delighted to be part of this program in such a meaningful way,” explained Becky Perkins, vice president of communications for the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey, the financial sponsor of the parnership. “We wanted to have hands-on involvement in raising enrollment for NJ FamilyCare and we think this allows us to do that.”

“We know many parents don't realize their children are eligible for the program. By giving NJ FamilyCare high visibility during the season, we hope Nets fans will investigate the possibility and take advantage of affordable health coverage,” explained Bob Moran, senior vice president of business development for the New Jersey Nets. “As a team that cares deeply about our community, we are so pleased to give FamilyCare all the exposure we can and help as many families as possible get the best available health care.”

Nets player Jayson Williams has been named the team's official FamilyCare spokesperson and will promote “NJ FamilyCare Night” in radio spots on WOR 710 AM in the weeks prior to the March 18 game.
